Cobram/Barooga Equestrian Club: Small Club, Big Heart
Sitting on the border in the Murray Region, the Cobram/Barooga Equestrian Club might be a relatively small club, but there is always plenty happening. Established in 1992 by Carol Doherty and Sheilah Keamy, CBEC is now heading into its 35th year. Over that time, the Club has built a strong and friendly equestrian community, with members enjoying everything from Dressage and Showing to Showjumping, Horse Trials and 3PE. While competition is certainly part of club life, CBEC has always been just as much about encouraging one another, learning, having a go and enjoying our horses. That supportive club spirit has also produced some terrific results over the years, both individually and in teams. The Club won the TTT Show in 2009 and hosted the event the following year. In 2019, CBEC won TTT Dressage and earned the opportunity to host, although COVID and then flooding had other ideas. After three years of delays, we finally welcomed riders to Elmore for the event in March 2023. Apparently we enjoyed the experience, because after winning TTT Dressage again in 2025, we are now preparing to host our second TTT Dressage event in November 2026!

Ride, Learn, Compete and Enjoy
That pretty much sums up the philosophy at CBEC. Our monthly training days, generally held on the fourth Sunday, bring together senior and junior riders with a wide range of experience and goals. Some members are keen competitors, others are building confidence or trying something new, and some simply enjoy the opportunity to get out with their horse and spend the day with like-minded people.
The Club regularly brings in experienced and qualified instructors across different disciplines, giving members the chance to improve their riding and horsemanship in a relaxed and supportive environment. Just as importantly, training days are a chance to catch up, share knowledge and enjoy the friendships that come with being part of a riding club.

A Little Friendly Competition
Our Official Dressage Jackpot weekend, generally held in May, has become a highlight of the Club calendar. Now held at Elmore the competition brings riders together for a weekend of competition and good old-fashioned riding club hospitality.
Showjumping and Combined Training have also featured on our competition calendar over the years, and we continue to look at opportunities to offer these disciplines again, along with the possibility of adding a 3PE event.

Our Home at Barooga
We are very fortunate to call the Barooga Recreation Reserve home. It gives us a great base for training days, competitions and the many other activities that make a riding club tick. Our facilities include a full-size dressage arena with sprinkler system, a fully fenced 20-metre round yard, 22 holding yards including a stallion yard, a double-bay wash stand, Showjumping and Dressage equipment, two equipment sheds and clubrooms with a fully equipped kitchen, change rooms, showers and toilets.
Of course, good facilities are only part of what makes a club. For CBEC, it is the combination of horses, people, friendship and a shared willingness to pitch in that has kept the Club going for almost 35 years. Whether you are an experienced competitor, a capable junior rider, returning to riding after some time away or simply looking for somewhere friendly to enjoy your horse, you will find a place at Cobram/Barooga.
