Navigation Rides: getting started

Here is what you need to do before your first Navigation Ride.

1. Get a Navigation Ride performance card. You need one to compete in Navigation Rides. Order it from the HRCAV shop.

2. One card covers every horse. You only need one Navigation Ride card. It records the details of each horse you compete on, along with your placings and points.

3. Get assessed on each horse. You must be assessed on every horse you want to ride in Navigation Rides. The assessment confirms you meet the competency requirements.

4. Your points set your level. The Level Assessor does not allocate a level. Your level comes from the number of Navigation Ride points you, the rider, have earned, and is used to calculate penalty points for a more even playing field.

5. Fill in your own card. You are responsible for completing the details on your card, including your level.

6. Work out your points and level. Points earned since 2014 are shown on your database record, which is the most reliable source as riders sometimes forget to add placings to their card. Add any points earned before 2014 from the list below, then find your level in the table.

7. New to Navigation Rides? You start on 0 points, which is Level 5.

8. The assessor marks your record. Once you and your horse have been assessed, the Level Assessor enters a V on your database record to show you met the competency standards.

9. You are ready to compete. Once you have been assessed and your card is completed, you can enter a Navigation Ride.
